My cilantro story, first experience, recent anecdote, rant, etc...
Never had it or heard of it until I worked at a grocery store initially as a box boy, where, being in a Latino neighborhood, many customers bought it. All of a sudden, I would smell this sick, disgusting smell. Once I realized what it was causing the smell, when I saw it, I would hold my breath while I quickly put it in a plastic bag and sealed it tightly. So, I ordered it on a taco, thinking that maybe it tasted better than it smelled. It tasted even worse! There is an exception to this, though. When cilantro is an ingredient in COOKED dishes, the disgusting taste goes away with the cooking, and becomes a mild, slightly sweet taste. The heating must change the chemistry somehow.
More about me:
I hate mayonnaise, mustard and pickles, too.
