Stance: I hate cilantro.

What does cilantro taste like to you?
Most Hated Cilantro-Containing Food:
a green cilantro sauce that goes on boiled meat in Peru, but really anything,
Do people in your family hate cilantro, too? Who?
NO,I am the lone Ranger here and the object of some scorn since I am a pretty solid cook for the cuisine of Mexico, most cannot believe this 'gringo' did XYZ and I do NOT use cilantro, but rather Italian flat leaf parsley. much improved!
If cilantro were a historical malevolent dictator, who would it be? Why?
Caligula, mad man dictator and warped minded Emperor of Rome after the death of Cesar Agustus. He assaulted everything and anyone he had contact with, just as cilantro assaults and overpowers anything it comes into contact with destroying the delicate balance of complex flavors.
My cilantro story, first experience, recent anecdote, rant, etc...
As I think back the first horrible experience I had with cilanto was as a student recently arrived in Mexico City for my junior year in college. I was crammed into an apartment with a single mother, a son and Israel who slept on the floor in the dining area. I and two brothers from Chicago rounded out the list of people in the apartment. The Seņora always prepared some food for us the students and later on something nicer for herself and son One day not long before we moved out, the Seņora served some sort chorizo (sausage) soup with herbs and grease in it along with some slices of sausage and lots of some smells awful weed I later learned was cilantro, That with two corn tortillas was dinner and I ate it. Later that night the dinner wanted out and out it flew making a horrible mess and awful smell all over the place. Clean up was another issue but the smell turned me off forever. Then almost three years in the Peace Corps in Peru foisted more 'culantro' on me; a close enough cousin to be equally asceroso - disgusting
More about me:
I live and work in an area of Washington State that has a significant Mexican, Mexican-American community and I am to some degree a part of that community. I spend 6 to 8 weeks a year in Mexico City and over time have become a pretty darn good cook specializing in Mexican cuisine - not the heavy grease laden stuff but a bit more healthy and i NEVER pollute the aroma or taste of my food with that smelly, disgusting weed. My wife consumes it while I am gone and in the garden planted it far enough away from any area I will wander into to avoid making me want to barf. I feel so liberated knowing that there is such a large number of like minded souls.I have run across many Mexicans in Mexico with whom I am going to share this site. They hate it too!!!! We are not alone!!
