I first encountered cilantro when I was in sixth grade. We were splitting up into groups and making salsa. I had never seen this strange green plant before and I thought it was something like parsley, which I love. So I bit off a huge hunk of it and shoved it in my mouth. 2.7 seconds later I heaved and spat it all over my salsa group. There were bits on the floor, in our salsa, on other tables, and even on my fellow members. Nevertheless, I have not touched cilantro with a ten-foot-long pole since then.
