I am too old to remember the first time I encountered cilantro. However I remember being embarrassed because I just couldn't eat the dish while everyone else loved it. I do remember attending a family reunion in the early 90's where one of my cousins was going around to everyone and having them smell cilantro and taking a count of all who couldn't stand it. His theory at the time was that dislike of cilantro was an inherited trait. There were a disproportionate number of "haters" in the group. It made me feel better that I wasn't just being picky.
