I encountered cilantro decades ago in Mexico and I hate it at the very first taste. Cilantro is very common in Mexico although my Mexican friends say: " Either you love or hate cilantro". I hate it.
At the very first, I associated the smell of this herb to that one of the defensive sprays from a grass bug in the countryside. Skunks defend themselves likewise.
I never fail to mention that cilantro stinks but only a few people feel the same way. Personally, when I eat Mexican food I voice my hate for cilandro when I pass my order.
I would recommend that Restaurant waiters ask a specific question to the patrons before infecting food with cilantro pest.
